so assigned, shall have to the extent authorized by written order of
the Superintendent the power and authority referred to in Section
315 (f) of Article 66½ of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957
Edition, as amended) and the powers of police employees under
this Article.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That Section 428 of Article
81 of said Code (1957 Edition and 1965 Replacement Volume), title
"Revenue and Taxes," subtitle "Road Tax on Motor Carriers," be
and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

428.

[(a) State police.—] The Department of Maryland State Police
is hereby authorized and directed to [assist in the enforcement of]
enforce the provisions of this subtitle.

[(b) Officers in truck weighing stations.—The State Roads Com-
mission is authorized and directed to require that the uniformed
officers assigned to the several truck weighing stations throughout
the State assist in the enforcement of the provisions of this subtitle;
and for this purpose such uniformed officers shall have the powers
of peace officers, including the powers of making arrests, serving
process, appearing as witnesses in court and for the performance of
such other acts as may be necessary and proper for peace officers in
the enforcement of this subtitle.]

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That Section 46 of Article
89B of said Code (1957 Edition and 1964 Replacement Volume),
title "State Roads," subtitle "Distribution and Use of Special Funds,"
be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:

46.

The members of the State Roads Commission and such of its em-
ployees and servants, as are designated by it, shall have authority to
enforce all laws of this State relating to State highways [and the
provisions of the motor vehicle laws applicable to the size and weight
of motor vehicles] and to arrest all violators of any of the pro-
visions of law in reference to State highways [and the use of said
highways by motor vehicles as aforesaid] or violators of the regula-
tions and orders of the State Roads Commission in relation thereto.
Every such employee or servant shall, when exercising any such
authority hereunder, wear and display a metallic shield or badge
indicating that he is an employee or servant of the State Roads
Commission of Maryland; provided, however, that no contractor, his
employee or servant shall be permitted under this section to make
any arrest.

Sec. 4. And be it further enacted, That Sections 315 (f) and
341(d) of Article 66V2 of said Code (1957 Edition and 1965 Supple-
ment), title "Motor Vehicles," subtitles, respectively, "Operation
of Vehicles Upon Highways" and "Offenses and Prosecutions,"
be and they are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments,
to read as follows:
