1448                             Joint Resolutions

Whereas, Maryland was one of the first states in the Union to
embark on a system of paved roads throughout the State; and

Whereas, Austin L. Crothers, who served as Governor of Mary-
land from 1908 to 1912, had the foresight to inaugurate this pro-
gram during his tenure in office; and

Whereas, His service to the State in this regard earned him the
well deserved title of "The Father of the Hard-Surfaced Roads in
Maryland"; and

Whereas, Governor Crothers was a native of Cecil County on the
Eastern Shore; and

Whereas, It would be a fitting tribute to a distinguished Mary-
lander to have a highway traversing his home region as a tribute to
his memory; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the State
Roads Commission select a suitable Eastern Shore highway or
portion thereof to be designated officially as the "Governor Crothers
Highway"; and be it further

Resolved, That copies of this resolution be sent to the Governor
of Maryland and the Chairman of the State Roads Commission.

(Senate Joint Resolution 23)

Senate Joint Resolution urging the appointment of a commission to
study the registration fees, seat mile taxes, and operating sched-
ules applicable to public passenger motor buses.

Whereas, Proposals have been submitted to members of the Gen-
eral Assembly to revise the seat mile tax levied on public passenger
motor buses; and

Whereas, In recent years consideration has been given to possible
changes in the registration fees charged for motor buses, and the
question of schedules operated by motor buses has been a perennial
problem; and

Whereas, It would be desirable to have a comprehensive study
made of these problems affecting motor buses in order that correc-
tive legislation can be properly considered where required; now,
therefore, be it
