shall take effect from and after the passage thereof.

AN ACT to amend the act to incorporate the
Elkton and Sassafras river Railroad Company,
passed January session, eighteen hundred and
fifty-six, chapter two hundred and forty-eight.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the commissioners, or a
majority of them, named and appointed in the
act to incorporate the Elkton and Sassafras river
Railroad Company, passed at the January session,
in the year eighteen hundred and fifty-six, chap-
ter two hundred and forty-eight, shall at any time
within four years after the passage of this act, he
and they are hereby authorised to do and perform
the several duties requested of them, in the seve-
ral sections* of the said act, any thing in the said
act to the contrary notwithstanding, and that said
Elkton and Sassafras river Railroad Company,
may be fully incorporated according to the pro-
visions of said act.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said Elkton
and Sassafras river Railroad Company, be and
they are hereby authorised to locate and construct
a rail road from Sassafras river in Cecil county,
at or near Fredericktown, or a lateral branch from
the said Elkton and Sassafras river Railroad, as
authorised to be constructed by the said original
act, to some point on the State line, either north
or south of the said Chesapeake and Delaware
Canal, and there to connect with a branch road
from the said Delaware rail road, at or near Abid-
dletown or elsewhere, and to have and exercise
this power, whenever the location and construc-
tion thereof may in the opinion of the said Com-
pany, be conducive to the interests of the said
