and void, and no railroad or railway track shall ever
be built upon said bridge.

SEC. 9. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from its passage.

CHAPTER 216.

In force.

AN ACT to amend an act entitled an act to amend
the charter of the Union Plank or Turnpike Road
Company, passed at January session, eighteen
hundred and fifty-four.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the second section of the act to
which this is an amendment, which is as follows :
"That in lieu of the rates of toll established in the
seventh section of the original act to which this is
a supplement, the said company may demand or re-
ceive toll, not exceeding two cents per mile for any
vehicle drawn by two animals; one cent per mile
for every additional animal; for every vehicle drawn
by one animal, one cent per mile; for every
score of sheep, swine or cattle, three cents per mile,
and the same proportion for any less number; for
every horse and rider, or led or driven horse, one
cent per mile; and every pleasure carriage or vehi-
cle, the above rates, and one half the said rates ad-

ditional; Provided, that nothing herein contained
shall prevent said company commuting for toll by the
week, month, or year;" be and the same is hereby
amended, so as to authorise said company to charge
toll in the same proportion for a half of a mile, where
the distance travelled is more than one fourth
of a mile; and for one mile, where the distance
travelled is more than half a mile.

Proviso.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That if any person
shall wilfully break or throw down any gate on said
road, or dig up or spoil any part of said road, or
obstruct any culvert, water-way, or side ditches
upon said road, or forcibly or fraudulently pass any
gate thereon, without having first paid toll, for each
