to the stock, for the construction or purchase of other
Steam boats to such extent as may be necessary for the
object of the company's business; Provided, the whole
of the said stock subscribed shall not exceed one hun-
dred thousand dollars, divided into such number of
shares as the by-laws adopted by said board shall direct,
but the company shall have the power to issue their
bonds, bearing such rale of interest and payable at
such term or time, as the board may direct; Provided,
such bonds shall not at one time exceed one-half the
amount of stock actually subscribed and paid into the
said company.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the president and
directors of said company, shall be, and they are here-
by invested with all the rights and powers necessary
for purchasing, building, repairing and holding such
wharves, warehouses and offices as may be requisite
for carrying on the passenger and freighting business
on the waters of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributa-
ries, and for that purpose the said president and direc-
tors shall have power to purchase, make, construct or
lease, establish or keep all and every such work or
works, as they may find useful or necessary for carry-
ing on the passenger and freighting business, and may
also employ all such agents and make all such con-
tracts and purchases, and take and hold all such gifts
and grants of property or any interest in the same as
may be found necessary for the purposes aforesaid ;

Provided, the same do not exceed twenty thousand
dollars.

AN ACT to authorise James E. Douglass, late Sheriff
of Dorchester county, to close his official business, in
case he shall remove from said county.
|

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That in the event of the removal of the
said James E. Douglass, from Dorchester county, he
shall, nevertheless, have full power and authority, as
late sheriff, to close all executions directed to him, col-
lect all fees placed in his hands for collection, and do
