CHAPTER 57.

Feb. 24, 1854.

AN ACT to allow George Snyder of Washington coun-
ty, to bring into this State, a slave for a term of years
named therein.

Leave grant-
ed.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That it shall and may be lawful for
George Snyder of Washington county, to bring into this
State, from the State of Virginia, a negro man named
Jacob Beatty, a slave for a term of years purchased by
the said George Snyder.

In force.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take

effect from and after the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 58.

AN ACT to incorporate the Choptank Steam Boat
Company.

Incorporated.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That William R. Hughlett, Charles B.
Jones, Joseph Brown, William M. Godwin, John T.
Sangston, John P. Manlove, Zorababel H. H. Crop-
per, Thomas D. Case, Francis A. Porter, John M.
Green and George R. Dodge, are created a body cor-
porate and politic, under the name and style of the
Choptank Steam Boat Company, and by the said
name they, their associates and successors shall have per-
petual succession, and be entitled to, and have all the
powers and privileges necessary or incident to a cor-
poration having for its object the navigation of the
Chesapeake Bay and its tributary waters by vessels,
with the aid or use of steam power, and for the convey-
ance of freight and passengers or for the purpose of
aiding or towing other vessels.

Organization.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the corporators
herein named shall have power to organise as a board
of directors whenever a sufficient amount of stock is
subscribed, to purchase or build two Steam Boats; Pro-

vided, the cost of said Steam Boats shall nut exceed
fifty thousand dollars, and thereafter they shall as a
board be authorised to receive additional subscriptions
