CHAP. 143.

CHAPTER 142.

An act to allow certain collectors in Baltimore county
further time to complete their collections.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That it shall and may be lawful for Selman
Cox, Joseph Walker, John S. Ensor, Charles Jessop,
John W. Shanklin, John W. Onion, Nicholas Gatch,
Charles Bausman, Victor Holmes, Jesse M. Lowe,
Gideon Herbert, Henry F. Kalkman, Richard Nelson,
Samuel Watkins, Jonathan Tracy, George M. Hiss and
Henry Bushey, former collectors of tax of said county,
to proceed in the collection of all arrearages of tax
placed in their hands for collection, according to existing
tax laws, and in as full and ample a manner as if said
taxes had been collected in the respective years as they
became due, and they shall have the same power as if
they had collected the tax within the year, any law to
the contrary notwithstanding.

count.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the aforesaid col-
lectors named in the first section of this act, shall in
every instance, before they or either of them shall pro-
ceed to the collection of the tax, make affidavit before
some justice of the peace of said county, that the same
remains unpaid, and that they have not received any
security or satisfaction for the same, or any part thereof,
more than what credits may be given.

In force.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this law shall be
in force for two years after its passage, and no longer.

CHAPTER 143.

Levy authori-
sed for build-
ing bridge.

An act relating to the construction of a bridge over Big
Elk Creek, at Gilpins's Ford, in Cecil county.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the county commissioners of Cecil
county, be and they are hereby authorised and required
to levy on the assessable property of Cecil county, a
sum of money sufficient for building a bridge over Big
Elk creek, at or near Gilpin's ford, in said county; pro-

vided, that the said commissioners shall not levy in any
one year for the building of said bridge a sum of mo-
ney exceeding seven hundred and fifty dollars.
