straightening or relocating any of the streets, sidewalks
or alleys in the town or immediately adjacent thereto; the
location, size, and design of catch-basins; the location,
cross section and grade of storm drains, the materials of
which they shall be constructed, and the formula accord-
to which the town may or may not participate in the cost
of construction; and may condemn or purchase the right
of way for any street or alley which it may determine
shall be opened for the public interest, the process of con-
demnation to conform so far as may be required to the
condemnation of property for roadways by the county
commissioners of Prince George's County, as provided
by law.
(F) To make and maintain public improvements and
to acquire property within or without the corporate limits
necessary for such improvements.
(G) To provide by ordinance for the establishment of
building lines and building regulations and for the licens-
ing, taxing and regulating of all useful trades and occu-
pations and all amusements and theatrical exhibitions for
the purpose of raising revenue to meet current expenses
of the town, as well as for the purpose of proper protec-
tion of the health, good order and peace of the town.
(ED) To appoint such town officers and employees, in-
cluding a Corporation Counsel, a supervisor of public
works, and such other officers as the mayor and town
council may deem necessary, at such compensation or with-
out compensation to serve at the pleasure of the mayor
and town council.
(I) To cause by ordinance such licenses to be issued
and grant Franchises to public and quasi-public corpora-
tions as the state laws may permit.
(J) To have within the town limits, the same powers
as the Maryland State Board of Health.
(K) To have full powers to establish such fines, penal-
ties and punishments for the breach of town ordinances
as they may deem proper, not to exceed one-hundred dol-
lars ($100. ) fine and thirty (30) days in jail, or both,
besides costs; and they may recover said fines or penalty
by an action in debt. Imprisonment for violation of an
ordinance shall be in the town jail if one be provided, or
in the county jail, and the superintendent of the Prince
George's County Police and/or the sheriff of Prince
George's County shall receive and confine any person so
