(House Bill 218)
AN ACT to authorize and empower the Mayor and City Coun-
cil of Cumberland, Maryland, to borrow the sum of One
Million Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($1, 500, 000. 00)
from the State of Maryland and to issue coupon bonds for
the payment of the same, to be known as "Cumberland Dis-
posal and Sewage Treatment Plant Bonds of 1951", and
to sell the same AND TO ISSUE COUPON BONDS IN
SUCH AMOUNT, SAID BONDS TO BE KNOWN AS
"CUMBERLAND SEWAGE DISPOSAL AND TREAT-
MENT PLANT BONDS OF 1951"; TO AUTHORIZE THE
SAID MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL TO SELL SUCH
BONDS OR TO BORROW SUCH SUM OF MONEY
FROM THE STATE OF MARYLAND and to use the pro-
ceeds thereof for the purpose of extending existing sewage
facilities in the City of Cumberland and in the areas imme-
diately adjacent to said City, and for the acquisition, design
and construction of a Sewage Disposal and Treatment Plant,
and the lands and improvements and rights necessary
thereof and all expenses necessary incidental thereto, and
to provide for the payment of said State loan or bonds
and the interest thereon by service charges. TO PRO-
VIDE FOR THE PAYMENT OF THE INTEREST AND
THE PRINCIPAL ON SAID BONDS AT MATURITY,
BY SERVICE CHARGES, AND MAKING THIS ACT
SUBJECT TO A REFERENDUM.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Mayor and City Council of Cumberland be and
IT is hereby authorized and empowered to issue bonds to be
known as "Cumberland Disposal and Sewage Treatment Plant
Bonds of 1951", to the amount of One Million Five Hundred
Thousand Dollars ($1, 500, 000. 00) payable serially and in such
amounts annually as the Mayor and City Council shall by ordi-
nance determine, and to sell the same, IN WHOLE OR IN
PART, AND TO APPLY THE PROCEEDS THEREOF AS
HEREINAFTER PROVIDED; said bonds shall be in the
denomination of One Thousand Dollars ($1, 000. 00) each and
shall be exempt from State, County and Municipal taxes.
