CHAP. 96.

CHAPTER 95.

Passed Jan.
25, 1843.

An act to authorize Philip Pettibone, Collector of the se-
cond Collection District of Anne Arundel County, to
complete his collection of county taxes in said District.

Allowed to
collect.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Philip Pettibone, collector of the second
collection district of Anne Arundel county, be, and he is
hereby authorized and empowered to collect any taxes, or
balance of taxes now remaining due to, and uncollected by
him in the district aforesaid, in the same manner, and with
the same power and privileges as are allowed by the exist-
ing laws in said cases, made and provided.

Oath, &c.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the said Philip
Pettibone shall in all cases, before he proceeds to collect
said taxes, make affidavit before a Justice of the Peace of
Anne Arundel county, that the said taxes are due, and that
he has not received the same, or any part thereof, other
than the credit given.

In force one
year.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this law shall be in,
force one year and no longer.

 

CHAPTER 96.

Passed Feb.
2, 1843.

A supplement to the act entitled, An act to make a Turn-
pike Road from Cumberland to the Pennsylvania line,
passed December session 1841, chapter sixty.

Company may
erect gates,
&c.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That it shall and may be lawful for the company
incorporated by the act to which this act is a supplement,
to erect one or more gate or gates on the turnpike road
constructed by said company, and to appoint as many toll
gatherers as they may think fit and proper, who are hereby
authorized and empowered to collect and receive of, and
from all and every person and persons using the said road,
the tolls and rates hereinafter mentioned, that is to say, for
the distance of said road, being seven miles (and so in like
proportion, for every less distance) for every horse, mule or
jack, six cents; for every horse and cart, eight cents; for
every two-wheeled carriage drawn by one horse, twelve
and one-half cents; for every four-wheeled carriage drawn
by one horse, fifteen cents; for every four-wheeled carri-
age drawn by two horses, twenty cents; for every narrow
