of the Police Department to the various Platoons or shifts
shall be based upon the seniority of the members, the said
members of the Police Department shall have the right to
select or designate the particular Platoon or Shift they are
entitled to in accordance with their length of service in the
Department, provided, however, that the said Police and
Fire Commissioner shall have the power to call the mem-
bers of the police department for longer hours in cases of
emergency or unusual conditions or circumstances.

(e) Each member of the Police Force shall be granted
an annual vacation or leave of absence of fifteen days with
pay after one year of service, and if said vacation or leave
of absence may be taken with the approval of the Chief
of Police in such manner and at such time as the members
may desire, providing, that vacation periods or leave of
absence is granted in accordance with the seniority of the
members as the members may prefer. In addition to the
above vacation leave, each member of the Police Force shall
be granted leave of absence with pay two days each month
to be designated by the Chief of Police and shall be
allowed leave of absence with pay on account of sickness
not to exceed fifteen (15) days in any one year. Any
member of the Police Force may accumulate unused sick
leave from year to year, up to sixty days and may use
the same for sick leave at any time. Any officer or member
of the Police Department injured in the performance of his
duty shall receive full compensation for such time as he
may be prevented from performing such duties on account
of the injuries thus received, and in addition thereto, shall
be entitled to all medical, hospital and surgical expenses
resulting from said injury or injuries.

38A. The base or grade salary of the members of the
Police Department of the City of Cumberland shall be as
follows:

The Chief of Police shall receive two hundred and ten
dollars ($210. 00) per month; the Assistant Chief of Police
shall receive one hundred and eighty dollars ($180. 00) per
month; the Lieutenant of Police shall receive one hundred
and sixty dollars ($160. 00) per month; each Sergeant shall
receive one hundred and fifty dollars ($150. 00) per month;
each Patrolman and Detective shall receive one hundred
and fifteen dollars ($115. 00) per month during the first
year of service and one hundred and forty-five dollars
($145. 00) per month for each month thereafter. No mem-
ber of the Police Department or probationary member shall
receive less than one hundred and forty-five ($145. 00) per
month after one year of service. In case any officer shall
