63. The Burgess and Commissioners of Burkittsville
are hereby authorized and empowered to purchase current
from any public utility, upon such terms as it shall think
proper, for the lighting of the streets and public places
of the town.

64. The Burgess and Commissioners shall have power
to acquire by purchase or condemnation any property, real
or personal, or interest therein, for the purpose of install-
ing a municipal water system or sanitary sewerage system
and may pass such rules and regulations concerning the
installation, maintenance, operation, rates of charges for
the consumption of water, as it shall think proper.

65. The Burgess and Commissioners of Burkittsville
shall have the power to acquire by purchase or condemna-
tion any land or property or interest therein which it may
require for any public or municipal purpose, and may pro-
vide such method of condemnation of any land or property
or interest therein, situated within or without the town as
it may deem proper, under such procedure as it may pro-
vide by ordinance. It may provide for the appointment of
Commissioners to assess damages and benefits for property
taken for street purposes. It shall provide reasonable notice
to the owner and for appeals to the Circuit Court for Fred-
erick County by any person interested, including the Bur-
gess and Commissioners of Burkittsville, and for trial by
jury. It may also provide by ordinance for the acquisition
of any property or interest therein, including property to
be used for street purposes as provided in Article 33A of
the Code of Public General Laws of Maryland.

66. The Board of Commissioners shall have power to
pass such ordinances consistent with the constitution and
laws of this State as it may deem necessary:

(1) for the good government of the town; (2) for the
protection and preservation of the city's property, rights
and privileges; (3) for the preservation of peace and good
order and securing persons and property from violence,
danger and destruction; (4) for the protection of the
health, comfort and convenience of the citizens of Bur-
kittsville; (5) for establishing and maintaining a fire de-
partment; (6) to prevent, remove and abate, or cause to
be removed or abated, all nuisances or obstructions in or
upon the sidewalks, streets, highways, lanes or alleys,
drains or watercourses, or elsewhere in the town; (7) to
open, close and widen or narrow streets, lanes, roads or
alleys within the limits of the town, and may charge the
whole or any part of the cost thereof to the properties bene-
