SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 261 and Section 262, sub-section
(k), of Article 23 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Wicomico County, " sub-
title "Salisbury, " be and they are hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
261. The Government of said City shall be vested in
a Mayor and five Councilmen, to be selected as hereinafter
provided, who shall be taxpayers and qualified voters of
the City for twelve months next preceding their election,
and shall hold their offices respectively, for the term of
two years or until their successors are appointed or elected
and qualified; that nothing in this or the next succeeding
Section shall affect the tenure of office, rights, duties or
powers of any officer of the said City now holding office.
262 (k). The registered voters shall on the first Tues-
day of May, in the year nineteen hundred and thirty-five,
and on the same day every two years thereafter elect three
persons to be Councilmen, and shall on the first Tuesday of
May, in the year nineteen hundred and thirty-six, and on
the same day every two years thereafter, elect one person to
be Mayor of Salisbury and two persons to be Councilmen
and at any such election vote on any questions submitted
to them under the provisions of law, and elect, as herein-
after provided, a person or persons, as the case may be,
to fill any office or offices vacated by resignation, death,
removal or otherwise.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is
hereby declared to be an emergency law and necessary for
the immediate preservation of the public health and safety,
and being passed upon a yea and nay vote, supported by
three-fifths of all the members elected to each of the two
Houses of the General Assembly, the same shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
