of this Article, in this or other States, and the owner or
manager of said barber school, or barber shop, to issue an
affidavit to that effect, and after said student has passed a
practical examination to be determined upon by the Board
of Barber Examiners to ascertain his qualifications to be-
come a journeyman. Application for a journeyman's license
shall be accompanied by a fee of $5. 00, if a resident of the
State of Maryland for a period of two years preceding the
application, and if not, said application shall be accom-
panied by a fee of $10. 00. Journeyman's license shall be
renewable each year on paying the fee of $1. 00. If applica-
tion is not made within thirty days after said date of ex-
piration, the fee for renewal shall be $2. 00. In the event
that a student does not pass the aforesaid examination he
shall serve an additional six months as a student after
which time he may again apply for a journeyman's license.
277. A master license shall be issued only to one having
a journeyman's license and who has served for a period of
one year as a journeyman under a registered master barber
and who has the requisite skill properly to perform all the
duties thereof, including ability in the preparation of the
tools, shaving, beard-trimming, haircutting, and all the
duties and services incident thereto and sufficient knowl-
edge concerning the common diseases of the face and skin
to avoid aggravation and spreading thereof in the practice.
When the applicant passes the examination he shall pay
$5. 00 and the Board shall issue a master license to him.
The Board may revoke the license of a journeyman who
fails to pass the examination for a master barber license
after three attempts. Master licenses shall expire on June
1st, of each year, and may be renewed upon application on
or before the date of expiration and upon the payment of
$1. 00. If application for renewal is not made within thirty
days after said expiration, the fee shall be $2. 00. After
June 1, 1935, no master barber license shall be issued to
anyone not possessing the qualifications provided above,
and who is not twenty-one years of age or over and of
good moral character and temperate habits. Any student
journeyman or master who shall fail to renew his license
for a period of three years or more shall be required to
submit to a re-examination for the re-issuance of his license
and pay the required fee therefore.
278. Every two years each student, journeyman or
master barber shall file with said Board a certificate of
health signed by a practicing physician of the State of
Maryland, said physician to be selected from a list of phy-
