1314 VETOES.

As there is a possibility that this change would work
a hardship upon certain litigants, I have vetoed the bill.

LAUREL.

Chapter 194, House Bill 214, would authorize the City
Council of Laurel to shorten the period within which water
may be turned off for non-payment of water bill.

In these times of distress, I see no reason for introducing
into the law features involving additional burdens or pos-
sible severity upon taxpayers. I am, therefore, vetoing the
bill.

MILITIA.

Chapter 145, Senate Bill 61, amends the present law re-
lating to the Veteran Corps of the Fifth Regiment and the
Old Guard.

This amendment would involve the expenditure of addi-
tional funds which would be uncertain as to amount and
limited only at the discretion of those desiring to hold pa-
rades. In the interest of economy I have vetoed the bill.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY BILLS.

The Legislature passed a large number of bills making
changes in the local laws of Montgomery County, some of
which seem either to be unnecessary or undesirable.

Chapter 66, House Bill 48, authorizes the County Com-
missioners to designate one of their number to supervise
the County Police and to provide for the payment of ex-
penses in connection therewith.

Chapter 94, House Bill 105, amends the law as to the
appointment of the Supervisor of School Property.

Chapter 134, House Bill 43, proposes certain restrictions
on the use of firearms in Montgomery County, not covered
by the general law.

Chapter 171, House Bill 96, amends the law relating to
the Board of Assessments, their qualifications, duties and
compensation.

Chapter 179, House Bill 466, amends the law relating to
the salary of the County Commissioner acting as Super-
intendent of the County Farm.

Chapter 249, Senate Bill 430, provides for the appoint-
ment of a C6unty Treasurer in case of vacancy.

Chapter 368, House Bill 104, amends the law relating
to the salaries and allowances of the Supervisor of School
Property.

Chapter 405, House Bill 510, repeals the local law re-
lating to protection of game and fur-bearing animals.
