NO. 13.

A Joint Resolution of the General Assembly of Maryland,
requesting the Secretary of State and of Agriculture of
the United States to arrange reciprocal tariff agreements
with foreign governments concerning exportation of
tobacco from Maryland.

WHEREAS, Tobacco is one of the important crops of
Maryland; and,

WHEREAS, exports of Maryland tobacco have decreased
to an alarming extent and this has seriously impaired the
income of a large percentage of our population; and

WHEREAS, it is the belief of the General Assembly that
high import duties into many of the foreign countries have
been detrimental to the development of tobacco culture in
Maryland; now therefore be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Agriculture of
the United States be and they are hereby urgently re-
quested to arrange reciprocal tariff agreements with those
foreign governments which were formerly large importers
of Maryland tobacco and also to make any possible barter
agreements with those foreign countries having govern-
ment tobacco monopolies; and be it further

Resolved, That the Secretary of State of Maryland be
and he is hereby requested to send copies of this resolution
to the Secretary of Agriculture and the Secretary of State
of the United States.

Joint Resolution protesting against religious persecutions
by the Mexican Government.

WHEREAS, the freedom to worship God according to one's
conscience, has been a cardinal principle in Maryland since
its colonization over three hundred (300) years ago, and

WHEREAS, a condition to religious persecution exists in
Mexico which is repugnant to all decent peoples, and
