therefore this Act hereby authorizes the State Roads Commis-
sion to investigate, negotiate and upon proper proof, settle with
Clara Casson, wife, and Ella M. Casson and Katie Casson,
infant children of Wilmer Casson, deceased, for the loss sus-
tained by them because of the death of Wilmer Casson, who
was killed on August 4, 1922, while driving an automobile on
the Conowingo Bridge, when a protruding rail concealed in
underbrush, caught in one of the wheels and threw the automo-
bile over the side, crushing his skull; the amount of settle-
ment not to exceed, however, the sum of twenty-five hundred
dollars ($2, 500. 00).

CHAPTER 141.
AN ACT to authorize and direct the State Roads Commission
to take over the St. George's Island bridge, in St. Mary's
County, and to maintain the same as part of the State Roads
System.
WHEREAS, The St. George's Island bridge, connecting St.
George's Island and the mainland at Piney Point, St. Mary's
County, was constructed by the State Roads Commission; and
WHEREAS, The road from Leonardtown to Piney Point,
terminating at the mainland end of the St. George's Island
bridge, is a State Road; and
WHEREAS, The said St. George's Island bridge is thereby
connected with the State Roads System; therefore,
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the State Roads Commission be and it is hereby
authorized and directed to take over the St. George's Island
bridge, in St. Mary's County, and to maintain the same as a
part of the State Roads System. Provided, however, that all
gums expended for maintenance or other purposes on said
bridges shall be paid out of such State Road Funds as may be
allotted to said St. Mary's County under the General State
Road Law.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted. That this. Art shall take
effect June 1, 1924.
