14 SEPEMBER 1695 58 ~ Court convenes; Commissioners present: Francis Jenckins, Matthew Scarbrough, Thomas Newbold, Samuel Hopkins, James Round, Thomas Jones 58 ~ Major Amrose London put into Sheriff’s custody for “sundry abuses to the Court.” 58 ~ Thomas Dixon, George Layfield, Capt. King, Capt Elzey appear and join Court; all actions on Docket were dismissed for non-appearance, the plaintiffs and defendants being three times called. 59 ~ Robert Pirrie, Pltf. vs. Doctor John Vigerous, Deft. for debt of 1000 lbs/tbco; Pirrie submits account for legal services representing Vigerous in cases against George Layfield, Elinor Maclemy, Thomas Jones, Edward Jones, William White, John Johnson, William Willmott, George Layfield; Sheriff returns writ non est inventus; Pirrie asks for attachment of Vigerous’ goods; granted by Court; Pirrie makes bond for 2000 lbs/tbco, securities Sam Worthington, Thomas Gillett. 59 ~ Francis Jenckins posts recognizance bond for 14, 000 lbs/tbco for attachment of goods of Dr. John Vigerous, per judgement of 7394½ lbs/tbco made 13 June 1695; security Capt. (No dates given) 62 ~ Margart Train appeared in Court to give evidence about John Jenner; says that about 12 months earlier she saw Jenner “have hold of a ewe” but hid his nakedness when he was seen; further that Jenner had often made advances on her and her sister, had forced himself on an Indian woman and was responsible for two negro bastards; Court orders that a hue and cry be issued for Jenner in Nanticoke, the Sea side and at Whorekill. (See Transcription) 62 ~ William Jenckins, Sen. fined for swearing in Court; also fined for swearing outside Court. 62 ~ Mary Baskett fined for bastardy. 62 ~ Memorandum, last two fines had been omitted from previous account of October 1695, which was sworn to before Governor Nicholson & Council; needed to be added. 62 ~ Rates for Liquor for coming year. (See Transcription) 62 ~ Memorandum; account of amerciaments drawn up from June Court 1688 to November Court 1695; 539 amerciaments; at 30p each (probably lbs/tbco, but not stated), total amounts to 16170. 62 ~ Court adjourned until 2nd Tuesday in November 1695. |
