44 ~  Court convenes; Commissioners present: Francis Jenckins, Thomas Dixon, Matthew Scarbrough, George Layfield, Thomas Newbold, Samuel Hopkins, James Round, Thomas Jones, John King, Arnold Elzey.

44 ~  Case against Rose Mason for bearing a bastard; Mason states that Peter Watson, Sen. is the father; Court orders that he be summoned to next Court; Mason fined 400 lbs/tbco and made to pay fines; Anthony Morris, security to Mason,  makes recognizance bond for payment of fine and fees.

44 ~  Court makes note of complaints (unspecified) against Ephraim Wilson and William Fausett; orders bond for their appearance at Court on following day.

45 ~  Court orders that Daniel Selby by made overseer jointly with William Cord (precinct unspecified).

45 ~  John Cornish, Gent., Pltf. vs. Henry Reed, wife Perthenia, widow of John Smock, Deft. for debt of 1855 lbs/tbco; Peter Dent, attorney for Cornish, presents account for sundry items provided John Smock at Pocomoke in 1691; Samuel Alexander, for Reed, pleads non assumpsit; Court finds for Cornish, as declared.

46 ~  Willmott Hill, Admn of Richard Hill, Pltf. vs. William Massey, planter, Deft. for debt of 4000 lbs/tbco; Robert Pirrie, attorney for Hill, presents bond on Massey made 5 February 1691/2 promising payment to Hill by 10 October 1693 at Snow Hill, on penalty of 8000 lbb/tbco; witnesses James Round, Robert Pirrie; Attorney for Hill makes no defense; Court orders payment by Hill in amount of 4000 lbs/tbco.

47 ~  Lawrence Crawford, Deft. vs. John Colson, planter, Deft. for debt of 800 lbs/tbco; Robert Pirrie, attorney for Crawford, claims debt due from Snow Hill in 1693 but presents no documents; Court delares a non-suit; Crawford to pay costs.

48 ~  John Pope, planter, Pltf. vs. Ellis Coleman, wife Damarias  Deft. for debt of 400 lbs/tbco; Sam Worthington, attorney for Pope, claims debt contracted by “Ellias” per note signed 16 July 1692 by wife Damarias at Snow Hill; Court considers that there is no such person as “Ellias”, as written on the declaration, rules a non-suit.

49 ~  Col. David Browne, Pltf. vs. Thomas Roberts, Deft. for debt of 888 lbs/tbco; Robert Pirrie, attorney for Browne, presents bill of debt signed 13 June 1689 at Snow Hill  promising delivery by 10 October following; witnesses Edward Jones, Josias Seaward; Court finds for Col. Browne as declared.

49 ~  Peter Dent, Pltf. vs. James Berry, tanner, Deft. for debt of 600 lbs/tbco; Dent presents an account itemizing fees for representing Berry against Poole & Millman, Whaples and Dennam Olondman; (Edward) Jones, attorney for Berry, enters non sum informatus; Court orders payment as declared. 

50 ~  George Layfield, Esq., Pltf. vs. Walter Talbott, planter, Deft. for debt of 30 bushels wheat and 500 lbs/tbco; Peter Dent, attorney for Layfield, presents note signed 14  June 1693 promising delivery at Snow Hill by 10 October following; witnesses Thomas Naon(?), Martha Gregory; Court rules for Layfield as declared.

51 ~  George Layfield, Esq., Pltf. vs. Walter Talbott, planter, Deft. for Talbott to render an account of crop of Indian corn and tobacco harvested in 1692; Peter Dent, for Layfield, claims Layfield provided Talbott use of his negro slave Black Will during harvesting at Manokin in return for a share of the crop, but Talbott has given no account of the crop; Court rules a non-suit.

51 ~  Col. David Browne, Pltf. vs. John Johnson of Jericho, Deft. for debt of 1342 lbs/tbco; Robert Pirrie, attorney for Browne, presents bond signed 12 August 1691 promising payment at Jericho by end of November, under penalty of double payment; witnesses Lawrence Crawford, Peter Elzey; Court rules payment of 1342 lbs/tbco to Col. Browne.

52 ~  William Grayer, Pltf. vs. Richard Warren, planter, Deft. for 1200 lbs/tbco; Sam Worthington, attorney for Grayer, states that Grayer sold horse to Warren at Snow Hill in 1692; presents account signed by Warren showing sales price of 1200 and balance due of 600 lbs/tbco;  Court awards Grayer 600 lbs/tbco.

53 ~  Capt. John King, Mr. Thomas Jones, Admns for Stephen Luffe, Defts. vs. John Rowell, cordwinder, Deft. for debt of 1316 lbs/tbco; Sam Worthington, attorney for plaintiffs, presents account of services provided Rowell by Luffe as Sheriff; includes fees for subpoenas and taxes paid; mentions cases of James Sangster, Owen, Riggen, Matthews, William Duffe; Rowell and attorney do not appear; Court rules for plaintiffs as declared.

54 ~  Mr. David Richardson, Pltf. vs, Bryan Callahagan (Callagan), planter, Deft. for for debt of 400 lbs/tbco; Robert Pirrie, attorney for Richardson, claims Callahagan signed bill of debt 2 December 1692 at Pocomoke; bill not exhibited; Samuel Alexander, for Calahagan, pleads non est factum; Court considers debt not proved, rules a non-suit.

54 ~  John Polke, cooper, Pltf. vs Ephraim Wilson, Deft. for debt of 2000 lbs/tbco; Sam Worthington, attorney for Polke, presents account of George Parks, cooper, with 2000 lbs/tbco due Polke for work done in 1692 at Manokin, remaining balance of 600 lbs; Parks has since left the County and Wilson is his attorney but refuses to pay claimed debt; Peter Dent, for Wilson, asserts he is not liable; Court rules a non-suit.

55 ~ William Polke, cooper, Pltf. vs Ephraim Wilson, Deft. for debt of 400 lbs/tbco; Sam Worthington, attorney for Polke, presents account of George Parks, cooper, with 400 lbs/tbco due Polke from 10 April 1693 at Manokin; Parks has since left the County and Wilson is his attorney but refuses to pay claimed debt; Peter Dent, for Wilson, asserts he is not liable; Court rules a non-suit.

55 ~  Mr. Thomas Jones called before Court to post security as required by Provincial Court for charge made against Jones by Edward Willy, merchant of Barbados, that Jones had received two negroes illegally brought from Barbados; Jones and Ephraim Wilson affirm that security had already been posted at Provincial Court.

55 ~  James Round, Gent, Pltf. vs Robert Pirrie, Deft. for debt of 1743 lbs/tbco; Peter Dent, attorney for Round, claims debt due for merchandise provided at Seaside per account dated 9 October 1693; Sam Worthington, for Pirrie, says that an itemized account of the particulars should be submitted; Court rules a non-suit.

56 ~  William Matthews, Pltf. vs. (Maj.) Ambrose London, Deft. for debt of 1100 lbs/tbco; Robert Pirrie, attorney for Matthews, claims debt is due for a servant sold to London in 1687 at Annemessex; indenture agreement for servant John Gibins (Gibens) produced, only part legible, but contains acknowledgement by Gibins for receipt of 100 lbs/tbco; Court rules for Matthews in amount as declared.

57 ~  Peter Bodkin, Pltf, vs. Hannah Maynard, Admn of James Maynard, Deft. for debt of  998 lbs/pork and 1283 lbs/tbco @ 5/1 per hdrd lbs; Sam Worthington, attorney for Bodkin claims amount due for mechandise provided at Snow Hill in August 1693; Peter Dent, for Maynard, says a copy of account should have been sent; Worthington says one was provided with declaration; Court says copy should have been provided with the Writ; rules a non-suit.

58 ~  Francis Jenckins, Pltf. vs. Griffin Morris, Deft; attachment of Morris’s goods per 15 August 1695 Court award of 1896 lbs/tbco to Jenckins returned; the garnishees appear, Charles Fassitt with 1200 lbs and John Cropper with 700 lbs; Court orders condemnation with execution per attachment.

58 ~  James Round, Deft. vs. Griffin Morris, Deft. attachment of Morris’s goods per 15 August 1695 Court award of 1436 lbs/tbco to Round returned; garnishee John Franklin appears but has only 1200 of  1500 assignd; Court orders condemnation with execution per attachment.

58 ~  Edward Jones requests payment for 7 days attendance at Court, case of  Col. David Browne vs. Thomas Roberts.

58 ~  Philip Conner requests payment for 4 days attendance at Court; case of William Matthews vs. Ambrose London.
