SPECIAL COURT - OCTOBER 1695 63 ~ 15 October 1695, Court convenes at Dividing Creek; Commissioners present: Francis Jenckins, Thomas Newbold, Edmund Howard, John King, Stephen Horsey, Arnold Elzey; John Fisher sworn as Deputy Clerk. 63 ~ Commisioners designate 22 October as day for election of delegate for Provincial Assembly; to meet at 12 o’clock at house of Richard Tull at Dividing Creek; Sheriff to give notice to Constables to inform all qualified persons. 63 ~ Case against Philip Breedy for stealing; warrant issued by Thomas Newbold 15 October to John Broughton, Constable of Mony, to take Breedy into custody and bring him to Richard Tull’s house at Dividing Creek; to answer to charge made by John Kellam of stealing 5-6 shillings. 63 ~ John Broughton, Constable, returns with Breedy in custody; Breedy denies charge, but possesses said amount of money, claiming it came from a certain Richard at Alexander Maddux’s; order issued by Court to have Breedy appear at November Court. 64 ~ Breedy makes appearance before Court (no date); confesses guilt; Court orders he pay fourfold to Kellam, but Kellam is content with return of 5 shillings; Court orders Sheriff give Breedy 5 lashes, administered forthwith; John Dennis pays principal and fees for Breedy. 64 ~ Court adjourned. |
