62 ~ [September 1695] Evidence of Margarett Traine concerning John Jenner Ordered that a Warrant be drawn & directed to the Constable of Wiccocomico hundred to apprehend & take the body of Jno Jenner and forthwith bring before this Court to answer to his Ma’tie. Which warrant was drawn & sent to Mr Dashiels Constable who made return of his warrant but could not find the sd Jenner. Ordered that Margarett Train be sum’d to the Court to give in her Evid[ence] for the King agst sd Jenner The sd Margarett Train this day appeared in Court & upon her Exam’n saith upon her oath taken in Court, that about twelve months ago she see the foresd John Jenner have hold of an Ewe which the sd Jenner perceiving to be discovered lett goe sd Ewee and then hid his nakedness covered with his leather apron which nakedness she said she did not see, and further said that he the sd Jenner would often have laid with her - telling her the sd Margarett that he would not gett her with child, and p/ force would have thrown her down askeing to knock her. Likewise the said Margarett further said that the said Jenner had made Sundry offers to lye with her sister, also added that the sd Jenner used to force the Indian Woman as was discovered by her mother, sd Jenners wife, as also spoke of two Negro Bastards - Ordered by the Court that three Hue & Cryes be issued out after the sd Jenner which was drawn & sent 3 severall wayes/ viz, one to Nanticoke, one to the Sea Side & the other towards the Whorekill, all intimateing the nature of the Crime. |
