compensation for his services such sum as the Com-
missioners may deem proper, not exceeding three
hundred dollars; the said clerk is authorized and
is hereby empowered to administer an oath or
affirmation to any account not before probated to
any person presenting a claim to the Commis-
sioners against the county, but nothing in this
section shall be construed to empower the Clerk to
administer the oath or affifmation in any other
place than in his office; he shall be allowed the
usual fee of a Justice of the Peace for the same
service.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 256.

 

AN ACT to make valid a deed from Charles H.
Carroll, of the State of New York, to William
T. Carrol], of Washington city, District of Co-
lumbia.

Passed Mar.
10, 1864.

WHEREAS, Charles Carroll, of the State of New
York, died seized and possessed of certain real
estate lying partly in Washington county, Dis-
trict of Columbia, and partly in the counties of
Montgomery and Prince George's, Maryland; and
whereas, Charles H. Carroll, of the State of New
York, in his own right and as executor of the last
will and testament of the said Charles Carroll, de-
ceased, did convey said real estate to William T.
Carroll, of Washington city, District of Columbia,
by deed bearing date the twenty-second day of Oc-
tober, eighteen hundred and fifty-seven, and re-
corded in Liber J. A. S., number one hundred
and seventy-three, folios six and seven, one of
the land records of Washington county, District
of Columbia, and also was recorded in Liber J. G.
H., number eight, folios seventy-eight, seventy-
nine, eighty, eighty-one and eighty-two, one of
