under the laws of this state governing general
elections, and subject to all the provisions of
such laws.
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That at the election
herein provided for the ballots shall have

written or printed on them the words "For the
Railroad subscription," or "Against the rail-
road subscription," which said ballots shall be
furnished at the cost of the said county com-
missioners of said county, and the judges of the
said election shall make a return of said votes so
cast to the clerk of the circuit court for Caro-
line county; and the said clerk shall certify the
same to the board of county commissioners of
said county, and if a majority of said votes so
cast shall be cast for the railroad subscription,
then the said county commissioners shall sub-
scribe to the capital stock of said railroads in the
amounts aforesaid.
SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That in the event of
a majority of the voters aforesaid determining
in favor of such subscription, then the county

commissioners of Caroline county aforesaid shall
issue the bonds of the said county to the amount
of sixty-six thousand dollars, to bear interest at
a rate not greater than four per cent, per annum,
payable semi-annually, and to run for forty years,
which bonds shall be sold at a rate not less than
par, and the money arising from such sale of
said bonds shall be paid over to the said railroad
companies ; fifty thousand dollars thereof to the
Baltimore and Cape Charles railroad company,
and sixteen thousand dollars to the Baltimore
and Eastern Shore railroad company, and there-
upon the said railroad companies shall issue to
the said Caroline county the capital stock of
their respective company for the amount of
money so received by them, which said stock the
county commissioners of said county shall be
authorized to vote at all meetings of the stock-
holders of the said respective companies in like

manner as individual stock is voted ; provided,
however, that all money paid to said railroad
companies for stock as aforesaid shall be ex-
pended in the construction of the said railroads
within the limits of Caroline county aforesaid.
