And be it further enacted, That any person or persons who
shall have in his or their possession any monument hereto-

tendent of the geological survey for the time being appointed
by the commission, established by the Act of the General
Assembly passed at its session of the year 1896 and known
as Chapter 51 thereof, or by any person by him duly author-
ized, surrender and deliver the same to the said superin-
tendent, or to his said representative; and upon failure of
any such person on demand so to surrender and deliver such
monument as hereinbefore required, such person shall be
guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof in
any court having criminal jurisdiction in the county in which
such person shall have such monument in his possession,
shall be fined not more than one hundred dollars for each
and every offense.
And be it further enacted, That all fines collected under

fund of the county in which such fine shall be imposed.
And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 783.
AN ACT to repeal Section 83 of Article 21 of the Code of
Public General Laws of the State of Maryland, and to
re-enact the same with amendments.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 83 of Article 21 of the Code of Public

Repeal and
re-enact.

General Laws of the State of Maryland, title " Conveyanc-
ing," be and the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted
with amendments, so as to read as follows :
83. All deeds intended to convey or create an estate of
inheritance or freehold or any declaration or limitation of
use, or any estate above seven years, and all mortgages,
