CHAPTER 72.

AN ACT to authorize the County Commissioners
of Allegany county to subscribe to the capital
stock of the Western Maryland Railroad Com-
pany, or endorse the bonds thereof.

SECTION 1, Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the County Commissioners of
Allegany county, he and they are hereby author-
ized in the name and for the said county, to sub-
scribe for and hold shares in the said Western
Maryland Railroad, or to endorse the bonds thereof,
to an amount not exceeding five hundred thousand
dollars, at the par value of said shares.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That for the purpose
of meeting said subscription the County Commis-
sioners of said county, are hereby authorized and
empowered to issue bonds in the name of said
county bearing an interest not exceeding six per
centum per annum payable as other county charges
are paid, said bonds to be paid, principal and in-
terest, within the period of fifteen years from the
date of issue.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That the bonds to be
issued under the provisions of this act shall be
received at their par value by the said railroad
company in full payment of the stock thus sub-
scribed for, but such bonds shall not be deliverable
to said railroad company, until the said railroad
shall have been located to the city of Cumberland,
the work put under contract and its construction
commenced and carried on within the limits of
Allegany county, and in such amounts as shall be
required to pay for the work done within the lim-
