eighteen hundred and forty-nine, it was enacted
|
 
|
that upon compliance with the provisions of said
|
 
|
section by the Baltimore and Susquehannah Rail-
|
 
|
road Company, certain streets therein named
|
 
|
should be closed so far as they would pass through
|
 
|
the Bolton Depot grounds of said company, and
|

that no streets other than those named in said

section should ever be opened through said depot
|
 
|
grounds without the assent of the president and
|
 
|
directors of the said company; and whereas the
|
 
|
said Baltimore and Susquehannah Railroad Com-
|
 
|
pany and its successor, the Northern Central Rail-
|
 
|
way Company, have complied with the provisions
|
 
|
of said section; and whereas it is now represented
|
 
|
to the General Assembly of Maryland that the
|
 
|
convenience and interests of the public and of the
|
 
|
Mayor and City Council of Baltimore will be
|
 
|
greatly subserved if an arrangement can be made
|
 
|
whereby the said Bolton Depot shall be removed
|
 
|
from its present location, so that public thorough-
|

fares can be opened through the ground now

occupied by it; and whereas it has also been
|
 
|
represented to the General Assembly that the
|
 
|
Northern Central Railway Company is willing, in
|
 
|
order to subserve the interests and convenience
|
 
|
of the public and of the said Mayor and City
|
 
|
Council of Baltimore, to dispose of the said depot
|
 
|
grounds, and establish a freight depot in another
|
 
|
location, provided suitable depot grounds are pro-
|
 
|
vided free of expense to it in consideration of its
|
 
|
surrender of the present depot grounds. There-
|
 
|
fore —
|
 
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
|
 
|
of Maryland, That the Northern Central Railway
|
 
|
Company be and the same is hereby authorized
|

and empowered to acquire for depot purposes all

that ground lying in the city of Baltimore, to-
|
 
|
gether with the improvements thereupon, and
|
 
|
escribed as follows, that is to say : all that por-
|
 
|
tion of the ground comprised within the following
|
 
|
boundaries, not now owned by said railway com-
|
 
|
pany, that is to say : Beginning for the same at
|
 
|
a point on the west side of the highway called
|
 
|
Cathedral street, where the north side of Oliver
|
