( 23 ) Well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the above Named Wm Stevens his Certain Attorney Extors Admrs or assigns the full Sum of five hundred Seaventy & one pounds of fatt Beef at or upon the first day of October next ensueing the date hereof at Some Convenient place in Snow hill Landing without fraud or further delay. Then this Obligation to be void & of none effect, or Else to Stand in full force & vertue his Sealed & delivered in prsence of William W Lawrence ❂ Sealed Walter: Lane mark Edmund: Howard Upon ye reverse of ye foresd was writt as followeth (viz) Novembr ye 18th 1681 Received of William: Lawrence three hundred & twenty pounds of Beef of this Bill within mentioned I say recd by me Oliver Berry .
Received of Wm: Lawrence to Barrels & half Corn for ye use of Coll. Stevens by me Novembr. ye 19th: 1684: Wm: Johnson.
The premises being Considered by ye Worth Court, doe find accots ballance, & no cause of accon found

Chambers Plts Somerset County Ss// Contra } Jonathan: Towers & Margarett his Wife Relict Jonathan Towers et Uxor Dfts. - - - - Extrix of Wm: Galt late of this County Shoemaker - - - - - - - - - was attached to answer unto And:Whittington of the Same County Innholder & Richard: Chambers Blacksmith in a plea of debt. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - And whereupon the plts by their Attorney James Sangster Comes & Sayes, that the Said Jonathan: by his intermarriage with Said Margarett his Wife & relick & Extrix of the Said Galt deceased is become & Stands justly indebted unto the plts in the full & just Sume of two thousand eight hundred & Sixty four pounds of good Sound Merchantable tobacco, as doth and may appear by a Certain Instrument under the hand & Seal of the Said Galt deceased, which Said Sum of 2864 lb of tobacco being two thirds of the whole Sum of 4295 lb of tobb mentioned in the said Instrument & the Right of the Said plts according to the tenour of the Same which is here in Court produced which Said Sum of 2864 lbl. of tobacco the Said William Galt in his lifetime hath not paid nor ye Jonathan or Margarett his Wife Since the decease of the said Galt the Said Galt deceased. And the Said Deft Since his decease failing in the paymt. or manner of paymt Specified [in] the Said Instrument as will more plainly appear, recourse thereunto had but fraudulently & Craftily intending to deceive the plts of the Same hath hitherto denyed paymt. & yett doth deny, though often thereunto required the plts Say they are damnified & hath loss to ye value of 4295 lb of tobacco, & thereupon brings this Sute.

And the Dft by his Attorney Samll. Alexander Sayes that by his intermarriage he is not become indebted to Said Andrew & Richard, for he was never Extor nor Admr of the Said Galt nor never was posessed wth any Estate of the sd Galt & of this he puts himself upon the Court.
