                           CHAPTER 363.

AN ACT to amend the act incorporating the Western
                 Maryland Rail Road Company.



     Passed May
30, 1853.
     Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the president and directors of the Western
Maryland Rail Road Company, or a majority of them,
be, and they are hereby authorised to issue the bonds
of said company for one million of dollars, or any part
thereof, in addition to the sum now authorised by the
charter of said company, bearing an interest of not
more than six per cent. per annum, redeemable in the
year eighteen hundred and seventy, and convertable
into the stock of said company at the option of the
holders thereof, and the said company are further authorised,
if they deem it expedient, to pay to the shareholders
entitled to receive the same, in the months of
October and April in each year, interest at the rate of
six per cent. per annum on all instalments paid in by
them, and continue to pay the same until the road shall
be completed; all profits or earnings of said rail road
within the same time, shall be credited to the cost of
construction, and all interests paid shall be charged to
the cost of construction; and authority is hereby granted
to said company to extend their road to Hagerstown;
Provided, the consent of a majority in value of the
capital stock, is first had from the stockholders in general
meeting assembled.

                           CHAPTER 364.

AN ACT to refund to Eliza S. Scrivner, of Anne Arundel
           county, certain taxes over-paid upon land.

26, 1853.
     SECTION 1.  Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland,
That the Treasurer pay, upon the warrant
of the Comptroller, to Eliza S. Scrivner, of Anne
Arundel county, widow of John Scrivner, late of said
county, deceased, seventy-three dollars and thirty-five
cents, being the amount of taxes paid by said Scrivner,
from the year eighteen hundred and forty-one to eighteen
hundred and fifty-one, both inclusive, upon one
hundred and twenty-three acres and a half of land,
     Authority to
pay.
