House bill entitled an Act to repeal and re-enact
sections 8 and 11, of Article 23, Code of Public Gen-
eral Laws, title "Corporations."

House bill entitled an Act to authorize the Cumber-
land Valley Railroad Company to connect with the
Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, at or near Powell's Bend,
where its railroad bridge crosses said Canal and the
Potomac River.

Which were read the second time.

Mr. Brown, from the Committee on Judicial Pro-
ceedings, reported favorably the following bills :

House bill entitled an Act to repeal and re-enact
with amendments section 25, of Article 47, of the Code
of Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "Insolvents."

House bill entitled an Act to add an additional sec-
tion to Article 27, of the Code of Public General Laws,
relating to "Crimes and Punishments," under the sub-
heading "Fraud by Drivers of Cabs or Hackney Car-
riages."

House bill entitled an Act to repeal and re-enact
with amendments section 160, of Article 77, of the
Code of Public General Laws, title "Crimes and
Punishments."

House bill entitled an Act to provide for the separ-
ate codification of the statute and common law, de-
fining the jurisdiction of Justices of the Peace and the
offences cognizable by said Justices, with the respec-
tive penalties thereto attached.

Which were severally read the second time.

House bill entitled an Act to repeal and re-enact
with amendments section 42, of Article 21, of the Code
of Public General Laws, title "Conveyancing," sub-
title "Bills of Sale."

With the following proposed amendment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

After the word "State," in the eighth line of section
1 of the bill, the following : "In the same manner as
deeds are acknowledged or acknowledged and certi-
fied."

Which was adopted.

Said bill, as amended, was r«ad the second time.
