120 ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY. [ART. 2.

levy, which appointment shall be made on the first day of April,
alternately by the mayor and city council of Baltimore and by the
county commissioners of Anne Arundel county,

94. The cost of maintaining said bridge and keeping it in safe
repair and condition for public travel, shall be paid in equal pro-
portions by the mayor and city council of Baltimore and the
county commissioners of Anne Arundel county; and they are
respectively authorized to levy upon the assessable property of
the said city and county, such sums as may be necessary, from
time to time, to defray said costs in the proportions aforesaid.
The said bridge shall be so maintained and kept in repair as a
free bridge; and the mayor and city council of Baltimore and the
county commissioners of Anne Arundel county shall be respon-
sible for any damage that may occur by reason of the said
bridge being out of repair.

95. For the safety of passengers and vehicles passing over and
along the draw of Light-street bridge, as well as for the protec-
tion and security of said draw, there shall be a penalty of not
less than five nor more than twenty dollars for any person
to drive or lead his horses, mules, or any other kind of
beast, whether of pleasure or burden, over and across said draw
at a gait faster than a walk; one-half of the fine to be imposed
under this section to go to the informer, and the other half
to the owners of said bridge; and the. said person so offend-
ing shall be tried before any justice of the peace of Anne
Arundel or Baltimore county, and upon conviction thereof shall
be fined as aforesaid, and upon failure to pay said fine shall be
imprisoned in the jail of said county for the period of thirty
days.

96. The mayor and city council of Baltimore and the county
commissioners of Anne Arundel county are empowered and
directed to cause to be erected and maintained, at their joint
expense, lamps along and on Light-street bridge, not more than
