CHAPTER. 159.

CHAP. 159.

A Supplement to an act entitled, an act to Incorporate the
Choptank Steam Boat Navigation Company of Mary-
land.

Passed Mar. 7, 1834

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Ma-
ryland, That the President and Directors of the Choptank
Steam Boat Navigation Company of Maryland, be, and
they are hereby fully authorised and empowered, whenever
they may deem it necessary and proper, to alter, change,
rebuild, reconstruct, widen, or improve the draw and wings
of the Bridge over Great Choptank river, at or near Dover
Ferry, in a good and substantial manner and form, as they
may deem necessary and proper to afford, a safe, easy and
convenient passage through said draw for vessels and

steamboats navigating up and down said river, Provided,
the whole expense to be incurred by the alteration and im-
provements contemplated by this act, shall be paid by the
President and Directors of the Choptank Stream Boat Na-
vigation Company of Maryland, out of the funds of said
company.

pense

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of
the President and Directors aforesaid, in the exercise of
the powers given them by this act, to use the same, in such
manner as to be least inconvenient and prejudicial to the
legal rights and privileges of the Choptank Bridge Com-
pany.

venience

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That in case the said Chop-
tank Bridge Company, shall sustain any injury or damage
in the alterations and improvements contemplated by this
act, it shall be the duty of the President and Directors of
the Choptank Steam Boat Navigation Company of Mary-
land, to pay the same, which injury or damage shall be as-
certained and determined by two discreet, disinterested

persons, one to be chosen by each of the said companies,
and incase the two men so chosen shall disagree in the
award and determination of injury or damages, then the
two men thus chosen shall call in a third person as umpire,
whose decision shall be final in the case.

How adjusted

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That after the alterations and
improvements contemplated by this act, shall have been
made, it shall be the duty of the Choptank Bridge Compa-
ny to keep the same good in order and repair as they now
are required by law to do.
