of the inhabitants of said town as they may think proper, and may
impose such fines for the due observance thereof as they may adjudge
to be just and right, not exceeding five dollars for any one
offence, which fine may be recovered before any justice of the peace
in the same manner as other small debts out of court now are.

CHAP. 114.

    6.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said commissioners, or a majority
of them, shall and may administer an oath to the surveyor to
be by them appointed in virtue of this act, and to any chain-carrier
or chain-carriers by them employed, to execute their respective duties
as surveyor or chain-carriers, as the case may be, faithfully,
honestly and impartially, according to the best of their skill and
judgment.

    7.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That all fines and forfeitures incurred
in pursuance of this act, shall be paid into the hands of the said
commissioners, or their successors, to be by them applied in such
manner as they may think best for the improvement of said town.

    8.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That if any commissioner appointed in
virtue of this act shall die, resign, or refuse to act as such, the vacancy
occasioned by such death, resignation or refusal, shall be
supplied by a commissioner to be chosen by the commissioners then
remaining, or a majority of them.

    9.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the expense arising from the execution
of this act shall be paid by all those who are benefitted thereby,
in such proper proportions as the said commissioners, or a
majority of them, shall determine.

                                      CHAP. CXV.
An Act for the payment of the Journal of Accounts.  Lib. TH. No. 1,
                                           fol. 179.

Passed Jan. 28, 1806.
    WHEREAS it appears by the journal of accounts of this session,
that there is due from this state the sum of thirty-four thousand five
hundred and eighty-two dollars and thirty-four cents and a half,
Preamble.
    2.  BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That 
the treasurer of the western shore shall and he is hereby authorised
and required to pay the several persons, their executors, administrators,
assigns or orders, or to such of them as shall offer to receive
the same, the several sums of current money allowed to them
respectively, as they appear to be settled and ascertained by the
said journal of accounts, out of any money now in the treasury, or
that shall come into the treasury, subject to the appropriation of the
general assembly.

    the Commissioners of the Town of Havre-de-Grace.

    WHEREAS by an act of assembly passed at November session,
eighteen hundred and two, entitled, An act to enlarge the powers
of the commissioners of the town of Havre-de-Grace, the commissioners
aforesaid are authorised to levy on the property of said
town a sum of money, not exceeding one hundred dollars in any
one year:  And whereas the said sum of one hundred dollars to be
levied as aforesaid has not been found sufficient to answer the purposes
intended by said law;
