session, one
thousand seven hundred and ninety-seven, so far as relates to the
money deposited in the treasury for the use of British creditors,
which obliges persons applying to produce a voucher that the claims
are paid, or secured to be paid, be rescinded. |

NOVEMBER SESSION, 1799.
No. 1.
WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly,
by the petition
of James Weems, that on the seventeenth day of May, seventeen
hundred and eighty-two, a certificate issued, in the name
of Thomas Gray, for two hundred and thirty-three pounds sixteen
shillings and six-pence, which certificate was for the use of said
James Weems: And whereas it further appears, that the said certificate
has been lost or mislaid by said Weems, and hath never
been cancelled or redeemed; RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the
western shore be and he is hereby directed to pay to James Weems,
or order, the sum of two hundred and thirty-three pounds sixteen
shillings and six-pence currency, with interest on the same from
the seventeenth day of May, seventeen hundred and eighty-two;
provided that the said sum shall not be paid to the said Weems, or
his order, until the said Weems, or some other person on his behalf,
shall give bond to the state of Maryland, with sufficient security,
to be approved by the treasurer of the western shore, conditioned
to refund the aforesaid sum of two hundred and thirty-three
pounds sixteen shillings and six-pence, with interest from the seventeenth
of May, seventeen hundred and eighty-two, in case the
said certificate should at any time hereafter be produced at the
treasury office, or payment therefore demanded. |

RESOLVED, That John Callahan, register of the land
office of
the western shore, be and he is hereby authorised and required to
compare the record BC and GS, No. 51, with the original certificates,
and to correct them where necessary. |

RESOLVED, That the chancellor be and he is hereby
authorised
to inquire into the facts stated in the petition of William Goodwin,
Robert Dorsey and Elizabeth Dorsey, and if they are established
to the satisfaction of the said chancellor, that he be authorised to
direct a copy of the certificate, taken from the books of Lock
Weems, formerly surveyor of Anne-Arundel county, to be received
in the western shore land office, and a patent thereon to issue, to
secure the legal title to the said lands according to the interests of
the respective petitioners, provided that such patent shall not be
construed to affect the rights or interests of any other person or
persons having claim to the said land. |
