INDEX TO THE LAWS.
Directions for viewing and examining
tobacco when
persons are entitled thereto by the inspectors notes,
and for payment by the inspectors if unmerchantable,
Penalty on inspectors giving notes,
unless they have
received and passed the full quantity expressed,
Directions as to the entry in the
inspectors books of
tobacco inspected, as to manifests and shipping,
Tobacco, (except in parcels,) not
to be passed unless
in hogsheads of the dimensions therein prescribed,

Complaints against inspectors may
be heard and determined
by the justices of the levy courts, who may
remove them, and are directed to transmit a copy of
the complaint, and of their proceedings, to the governor
and council,
Either party may appeal to the governor
and council,
In case of removal, the governor and
council to appoint
and commission some other person out of the last
recommendation,
The inspectors complained against
to be summoned
to appear, &c.
The county clerks to record the proceedings
of the
levy courts, and to attend them on all occasions relating
to this act,
Their allowance therefor to be assessed,
Directions as to the justices of the
levy courts, and the
inspectors, to meet and determine on the buildings, &c.
wanting at the several warehouses, and to appoint two
justices of the peace to contract therefor,
Such justices to contract with the
proprietors, and
on their neglect to give bond, as therein directed, to
contract with other persons,
Penalty on the said two justices for
neglect or omission,
On proprietors for suffering warehouses to be out
of repair,
The bonds taken by the two justices
for repairs to be
allowed in the county assessment, &c.
Sums contracted for by the justices
for repairs to be
allowed in the county assessment, &c.
The justices of the levy courts empowered,
at any
time of the year, to put in execution so much of the
act as relates to the building and repairing of public
warehouses, making wharves, &c.
Penalty for refusal or delay,
Provision made for the payment of
money due to the
proprietors of warehouses under the former inspection
law,
Directions for the delivery over of
tobacco by inspectors
to the persons who may be appointed in their
place, who are to be answerable therefor, &c.
Allowance to the justices appointed
under the act,
and to the inspectors for meeting and attending them, |
