TOBACCO INSPECTION

INDEX TO THE LAWS.
The inspectors to weigh and give receipts
for tobacco
if required, which shall be returned when the tobacco
is inspected, before notes are given,
Penalty on persons erecting chimneys,
other than
brick or stone, within one hundred yards of any public
warehouse, and power given to demolish such chimneys,
Special bail when to be awarded in
actions founded
on this act,
Provision made for purchasing or condemning
land
whereon to erect public warehouses, and for building
the same,
This act to be given in charge to
the grand juries,
The justices directed to inquire yearly
into the number
of warehouses and inspectors, the quantity of tobacco
inspected, &c. and to transmit their determination
respecting the continuance or suppression of the
warehouses, and the number of inspectors required,
to the governor and council, who may thereupon increase
or diminish the number of inspectors as therein
prescribed,
When any warehouse shall be discontinued,
the tobacco
to be sent to the warehouse most convenient,
Allowance to the inspectors and the
proprietors of
warehouses,
Charges for warehouse room for tobacco
unexported
after twelve months,
In actions for anything done in pursuance
of this
act the person may plead the general issue, and give
the act, &c. in evidence,
Double costs to be allowed on failure,
Prosecutions and actions for the recovery
of penalties,
&c. for any breach of this act, to be commenced
within one year,
Same, against persons making any seizure,
The inspectors to settle their accounts
with the levy
courts annually,
Provisions respecting a warehouse
in Annapolis,
Respecting an additional warehouse in Baltimore,
The act of 1789, ch. 26, and the supplements
thereto,
repealed,
Two additional warehouses to be built
in the
city of Baltimore by the levy court of Baltimore
county,
Beams and scales to be provided,
To be considered as public warehouses,
Allowance to the proprietors,
Allowance for storage after one year,
Inspectors to be nominated by the
levy court to the
governor and council, &c. in the manner directed
by
the act of 1801, ch. 63,
Bond to be given by the inspectors,
Inspectors to account with the proprietors,
The 4th and 5th sections of the act
of 1802, ch. 27,
repealed,
Additional buildings authorised to
the warehouses
of J. Calhoun, and Dugan and O'Donnell, in Baltimore,
The levy court of Worcester county
empowered to
sell the warehouses,
Not to meet as before appointing inspectors,
The inspectors directed to advertise
annually before
the 1st of April, once in each week, in one of the Baltimore
newspapers, and at the court-house door, a |
