            INDEX TO THE LAWS.
 

    Taxes on proceedings in the chancery court, the
mode of collection altered, Accounts to be kept by
the register, and sent to the sheriff for collection,
—An account thereof to be annually laid by the register
before the general assembly,
—Not to alter the mode as to nonresidents,
    Declared not lawful for the general assembly to lay
an equal or general tax, or any other tax, on the
people of this state, for the support of the Christian
religion,
    Species of property exempted from taxation,
    All other property to be valued and made chargeable
with the public assessment,
    No person whose property shall not be assessed to
$10 liable to assessment or tax under this act,
—The amount altered to $100 in Prince-George's
and Cæcil counties,
    Tenants to pay the tax, and to have an action against
the lessor, or deduct it from the rent, unless otherwise
agreed,
    Provisions as to lands westward of Fort Cumberland
in Allegany county,
    See Assessment.
    Deeds to be made by collectors for lands sold for
taxes,
    Time allowed to collectors to collect balances,
—The 3d section of the act, (as to Baltimore,) repealed,

    Tax to be raised for the education of poor children
in the counties therein mentioned, &c.

    The collection of taxes provided for in the city and
county of Baltimore,
    Five per cent imposed on prizes in lotteries as a tax
to the state,
    Tax imposed on all banks or branches in the state
not chartered by the legislature,
    Property in Worcester county to be revalued and reassessed,
    A further additional supplement to the act for the
more effectual collection of the county charges in Allegany
county, (1796, ch. 8,)
    Taxes authorised to be laid in the city of Annapolis,
    A tax laid on brokers and lottery office keepers,

    Of Worcester county—in consideration of his revolutionary
services, the court to license him to keep
ordinary without payment of the sum required by law,

    Tenants authorised to pay the collector the valuation
of the estate of the land,
—To have an action against the lessor therefor, or
deduct it from the rent, unless otherwise agreed,
