            INDEX TO THE LAWS.
 

    Duty of a judge of the orphans courts as to runaways,
as of the county courts, &c.
    Nothing herein contained to lessen the duty of registers
of wills in recording, &c. but the same to be under
the direction of the judges of the orphans courts, as
required by this act,
    Any imprisoned debtor may petition a judge of the
orphans court, who is invested with the same powers as
a judge of the county court to grant a discharge from
confinement, on bond with security for his appearance
in the county court, &c.
    Compensation allowed,
    See Insolvent Debtors.
    Each judge of the orphans court to be allowed four
dollars for every day's attendance in Prince-George's,
Charles, St. Mary's, Cæcil, and Somerset counties,
    German or Swiss redemptioners under twenty-one
years, not having parents or relatives, to be bound under
the direction of the orphans courts,
    They pay of the judges increased to three dollars, in
Baltimore, Dorchester, and Washington counties,
—Same, in Anne Arundel county,
    The judges authorised to bind out the children of free
negroes or mulattoes,
    The parents to be first summoned and consulted, &c.
    In all decrees, orders, &c. hereafter to be made by any
orphans court, the party may appeal to the court
of appeals,
    Such appeal to be made within thirty days,
    On agreement in writing, to be filed by the register,
the appeal may be made to the county courts, whose
decision shall be final,
    In all cases of plenary proceedings or caveats, where
application is made in writing, the court to reduce to
writing, and sign the order or decree, all to be filed as
a part of the proceedings, and transmitted to the appellate
court,
    So much of the act of 1798, ch. 101, and 1802, ch.
101, as relates to appeals from the orphans courts to
the general court, court of chancery, and county courts,
repealed,
    Interest on money due for property sold by order of
the orphans courts, and on money received for the hire
of slaves, to be considered as assets,

    Provisions as to counter security.  See Administrator.
    Letters of administration may be granted by the register
during the recess of the court,
    Letters so granted heretofore, and the proceedings
under them, confirmed,

    Punishment for burning,
—For breaking,
—Of persons apprehended having upon them any
picklock, pistol, &c. with intent to break into any out
house, or found in and upon any out house with intent
to steal, &c.
