ORPHANS COURTS

            INDEX TO THE LAWS.
 

    The justices of the orphans court, or any two, either
in or out of court, empowered to take sheriffs bonds as
the chief or associate justices were before empowered,
and as the judges of the courts then established might,
—May qualify the sheriffs at the time of taking the
bonds, in the same manner as the county courts, and
transmit a certificate thereof to the county clerks,
—Former qualifications before them declared valid,
    Appeals from the orphans courts to the former general
court or court of appeals, transferred to the court
then established,
    Petit jurymen in the orphans courts allowed two dollars 
per day, but not to extend to Baltimore, Allegany,
Harford, Calvert, Somerset, and Frederick counties,
    The orphans courts, on application of securities for
guardians, may call on them to give counter security,
—On failure, may revoke the appointment, and appoint
a new guardian,
—May compel the delivery over of the property to
such new guardian, by attachment, and direct the bond
to be put in suit,
    Similar provisions authorised against executors or
administrators,
    The delivery over may be enforced by attachment,
sequestration and imprisonment,
    The orphans courts empowered to appoint guardians
to infants acquiring property by gift or purchase, as if
by descent, devise, or in a course of distribution,
    Regulations concerning the registers fees for entering
the appearance of the state,
    The orphans courts may have the children of paupers
or vagrants brought before them and bound out
as apprentices, as also the children of lazy indolent
free negroes,
    When a distribution of specific articles is to be made
the orphans courts to appoint two disinterested persons,
not related, to make the same,
    If they return that an equal distribution cannot be
made, a sale to be ordered, &c.
    Discretionary power as to granting administration,
where a will is contested,
    No member of the orphans court to be a commissioner
of the tax,
    Surgical aid to be administered gratis by the institution
in Baltimore to persons producing certificates
from the orphans courts that they are objects of charity,
    The orphans courts to direct what stock, or other
permanent lands, the proceeds of the sales of infants
lands, and the surplus interest under this act, shall be
vested in by the guardians,

    The said stock to be transferable only by an order of
the orphans court,
    The orphans courts to approve the securities in the
bonds required from natural guardians, or those appointed
by will,
—May empower guardians to sell leasehold estates
of their wards, the proceeds to be invested in bank
stock, &c. under their direction, in the name of the infants,
    No sale to be valid without the concurrence of the
said courts,
    Proceedings directed in case of the death of an executor
or administrator before an account is settled,
    Proceedings authorised in cases of complaint by a
joint administrator,
    Powers of the registers in the recess, as to inventories,
accounts, probats, &c.
