INDEX TO THE LAWS.
To be established in the city or precincts
of Baltimore,
A lottery authorised for its benefit,
—The College authorised to annex the other three
colleges or faculties, the four to constitute an University,
&c.
—The property not to be valued in the public assessment,
No person, not then a practitioner
of medicine or
surgery within the state, allowed to practice and receive
payment without a license agreeably to the act of
1798, ch. 105, under penalty of $50,
—To be recovered by indictment, half for the faculty,
and half for the informer,
—A supplementary act (1816, ch. 141,) repealed,
—No person residing out of this state shall be permitted
to practice therein without being subject to the
same regulations and penalties as persons resident in
this state,
The Medical Society of Maryland incorporated,
Quakers, Menonists, Tunkers, and others
holding
it unlawful to take an oath on any occasion, allowed
to make their solemn affirmation as a qualification
for jurors, to be of the same avail as an oath to all
intents and purposes,
—The court to be first satisfied by testimony that
such person is one of those conscientiously scrupulous
of taking an oath,
All acts done or to be done by persons
conscientiously
scrupulous of taking an oath, (as far as they relate
to serving as commissioners,) declared to be good and
available in law as if they had taken an oath,
Menonists, &c. and persons scrupulous
of bearing
arms, exempted in part from militia duty,
—Proof required from persons having conscientious
scruples by certificate,
—To be exempt (except when called into actual
service,) on the payment of three dollars annually,
—Manner of collecting the same,
—Not exempt from standing their draught,
The declaration of rights and constitution
altered
relating to the administration of oaths in certain
cases,
Not to be valued for the public assessment,
Penalty on erecting booths for selling
liquor within
one mile of any Methodist meeting house in Talbot
county during the quarterly meeting,
Power given to sell the lot therein
mentioned,
Penalty on erecting booths for selling
liquor within
two miles of any camp or quarterly meeting in Worcester,
Kent, Allegany, Caroline or Cæcil counties,
—Same, in Queen-Anne's, Talbot, Montgomery,
and Somerset counties,
