            INDEX TO THE LAWS.
 

City Court, in the penalty of $50,000, for the
performance of their duties, &c.
    The bond to be recorded in the said court,
    The commissioners required annually to devise the
scheme of not more than two lotteries to be drawn in
the city of Baltimore, and to prepare and dispose of the
tickets, &c. and proceed to draw the same,
—The commissioners to transmit to the treasurer
of the western shore a copy of the scheme, and in the
sale of tickets to take the notes, &c. in his name as
such, and transmit them to him, and pay over to him
all monies received,
—The treasurer to pay the prizes on demand after
sixty days, deducting, first the discount prescribed in
scheme, and 5 per cent. as a tax to the state, applicable
to some general appropriation,
—The amount of the discount prescribed in the
scheme to remain to be appropriated by the general
assembly to the construction of canals and roads, improving
the navigation, promoting education, &c.
—The commissioners empowered to retain a sufficient
sum to defray expenses and office rent, rendering
an account to the treasurer,
    Whenever the managers of the lotteries excepted in
the act of this session, ch. 154, or in this act, shall have
drawn any scheme, they shall not propose any further
scheme, but the drawing of one shall be a full execution
of the powers,
    Any sale of a lottery, or scheme or any part thereof,
wherein the sum raised, or any part, may be applied
to any other purpose, declared void,
—Penalty on the seller and purchaser,
    The managers of two or more lotteries authorised to
consolidate them and propose a scheme to raise the
several sums,
    On such agreement being stated to the commissioners,
a bond to be given as therein directed, and the
lottery drawn in the order to which the first was entitled,
—The drawing of such consolidated lottery considered
as an execution of the whole powers granted to
each,
—Should the managers of two lotteries entitled to
draw in immediate succession agree to consolidate,
either by themselves or together, with the managers
of one or more lotteries, such consolidated lottery shall
be entitled to the same length of time to propose their
scheme, &c. as the said two lotteries entitled to draw
in immediate succession would have been entitled to,
had they been drawn separately,
    The lottery authorised by the act of 1811, ch. 87, for
finishing the Roman Catholic Cathedral in Baltimore,
allowed to be proposed and drawn, exempt from the
delay imposed by the act of 1817, ch. 154, to regulate
lotteries,
    Managers who shall not on or before the 1st of March,
1820, signify to the commissioners their determination 
to draw in their turn, to forfeit their right,
—The managers of any lottery to pay to the treasurer
5 per cent. on the gross amount of prizes, on
which the commissioners shall permit them to proceed,
    Licence to be taken out by brokers dealing in bank
notes and lottery tickets,
    The Washington Monument Lottery in Baltimore
exempted from the delay imposed by the act of 1817,
ch. 154, to regulate lotteries,

    For the purpose of gaming, prohibited,
