            INDEX TO THE LAWS.
 

    See Limitations.  Possession.
    A copy of any original certificate in the land office,
together with the notes or illustrations returned, referring
to the lines of other tracts of land, certified
by the register under seal, to be evidence in any court
in the same manner as if it were the original paper,
and proved to be in the hand writing of the surveyor,
and that the surveyor was dead,

    From the person.  See Robbery.
    Every person convicted of simple larceny to the value
of five dollars and upwards, or as necessary before
the fact, to restore the money, &c. taken, or pay the
value, and to be confined in the penitentiary not less
than 1 year nor more than 15 years,
    Every person convicted of feloniously stealing, taking
and carrying away, any horse, mare, gelding, colt,
ass or mule, or as accessary thereto, to restore the
horse, &c. or pay the value, and to be confined in the
penitentiary not less than 2 years nor more than 14
years,
    Every person convicted of stealing any ship, vessel,
&c. of seventeen feet keel or upwards, from within the
body of any county, or on Chesapeake bay, within the
jurisdiction of the state, or of feloniously taking and
carrying away any negro or other slave, or aiding, &c.
to restore the vessel or slave stolen, or pay the value,
and to be confined in the penitentiary not more than
12 years,
    If any person shall feloniously steal, take and carry
away, the personal goods of another under the value
of five dollars, or shall break into a shop, &c. not contiguous
or used with any any mansion house, and steal
money, goods, &c. under the value of one dollar, the
same course of trial shall be had as for other simple
larcenies; the person convicted shall be deemed guilty
of petit larceny, shall restore the goods stolen, or
pay the value, and shall be confined in the penitentiary
not less than 3 months nor more than 1 year,
    Robbery or larceny of any obligation, bond, bill
obligatory, or of exchange, bank note, promissory note
for the payment of money, lottery ticket, paper bill of
credit, certificate of the state or the United States, or
any of them, or any will or codicil, to be punished in
the same manner as robbery or larceny of goods and
chattels,
—Punishment of receivers—See Stolen Goods.
    Any person found in or upon any dwelling house,
&c. or in any enclosed yard, &c. with intent to steal
any goods or chattels, to be deemed a rogue and vagabond,
and on conviction to be confined in the penitentiary
not less than three months nor more than two
years,

    All laws thereafter passed, to be recorded in the
office of the court of appeals for the western shore,

    Directions for the annual printing of the laws by the
printer to the state,
—Bond to be given for performing the duty,
    The governor and council authorised and required
to cause the laws to be forwarded to the different
counties,
—Appropriation therefor,
—Former acts repealed,
