INDEX TO THE LAWS.
The governor and council empowered
to appoint
three commissioners, not resident of the city of Baltimore,
to ascertain and mark out the limits in which
the regulations for watching, lighting, &c. ought
to
be applied,
—To appoint three commissioners of lotteries, removable
at their will,
—To appoint at the period therein mentioned two
additional commissioners,
Stamp paper directed to be furnished
by the treasurer
to the offices of Banks, not chartered by the state,
under the direction of the governor and council,
Fines incurred for refusing to deliver
public arms,
to be accounted for by the agents with the governor
and council, and the fines to be by their order
deposited in the treasury,
The constitution altered making it
the duty of the
governor to nominate, and by and with the advice and
consent of the council appoint officers. See Constitution.
The governor and council authorised
to appoint, in
every port of entry, some person skilled in the German
and English language, as register of deeds of apprenticeship
or for the servitude of German or Swiss
emigrants,
A licence from the governor and council
required
for a broker, as to bank notes and lottery tickets,
Punishment for burning. See Crimes,
&c.
—Not to be valued for the public assessment,
The act to regulate the inspection
of tobacco to be
given in charge to them by the county courts,
—Same, as to the supplement to the act of 1797, ch.
110, to prevent excessive gaming,
—Same, as to the act to restrain the evil practices
of certain persons within this state,
—Same, as to the act to prohibit the emigration of
free negroes into this state,
—Same as to the supplement to the act to prevent
any obstruction of the navigation in Potomac, to be
given in charge in Frederick county,
Acts relating to the allowance of grand
jurymen,
Charge to be given to the grand jury
under the act
more effectually to secure the collection of the public
revenue,
Charge to be given in the criminal
court of Baltimore
to inquire into the conduct and management of
the keeper, &c. and a number not exceeding six to
be
directed to visit the penitentiary,
The laws to suppress duelling to be
given in charge
to the grand jury,
—Same, as to the act to prevent the inconvenience
of slaves being permitted to act as free,
The act for the better protection
of slaveholders, to
be given in charge in Calvert, Anne-Arundel, and
Saint-Mary's counties,
—The provisions of this act extended in Prince-George's,
Somerset, Dorchester, Charles, and Talbot
counties,
The act to regulate the manner of
grading licences,
&c. in Kent county to be given in charge, |
