GOVERNOR AND
    COUNCIL

            INDEX TO THE LAWS.
 

    The governor and council authorised to appoint commissaries
and staff officers for the militia when called
out, &c. the calls to be made on the commanding
officers of divisions,
—Authority given to them as to the acceptance of 
cavalry as mounted infantry, and artillery as flying artillery,
and arming and equipping such corps,
—Empowered to order the discontinuance of militia
pensions, if satisfied that the persons were not entitled
under a liberal construction of this act,
    In case of the death of the printer to the state, or his
refusal or neglect to enter into bond as therein directed,
the governor and council to appoint another
person,
—To appoint an agent to settle with the general
government the expenditures of the state, during the
late war,
—To direct him as to securities, stock or current
money, to be agreed on,
    The governor and council authorised to appoint a
trustee to sell a lot of the Choptank Indian Lands in
Dorchester county, on such terms as they shall direct,
—His bond to be approved by them,
—No sale to be valid unless approved by them,
—Compensation to the trustee,
    The governor and council authorised and required
to contract with the registers of the land offices on
each shore for making Indexes of the names of all the
lands surveyed and patented since the revolution,
—To draw on the treasurer for payment,
—Authorised to appoint inspectors and corders of
wood in the city of Baltimore,
    The duty of the executive prescribed as to the apprehension
and trial of persons leaving the state to elude
the act to suppress duelling,
    The governor and council to appoint commissioners
of insolvent debtors for the city and county of Baltimore,
—Authorised to judge of the additional ground to
be relinquished to the trustees of the Methodist church
in Annapolis,
—Required to cause the laws, votes and proceedings,
and other public packets and letters, to be forwarded
to the different counties, &c.
—The treasurer directed to pay to them, or their
order, a sum not exceeding $500 annually, for the 
purpose of this act,
    Directions concerning the appointment of field officers
in the militia,
    The governor and council to fill vacancies occasioned
by removal, death, &c. of any of the managers of the
lottery for the increase of the school fund,
—To appoint annually five members of the poor-house
of Baltimore county, and to fill vacancies,
—To appoint an inspector of salted fish for the city
of Baltimore,
—To appoint such inspectors at such other places 
as they may think proper,
—Quarterly returns to be made to them by the inspectors,
    The governor and council provisionally authorised
to appoint commissioners to estimate the value of a
bridge to be built over Monocacy,
    The attorney general to give his opinion and advice
in writing when required by the governor and council,
—They may call on the attorney general to aid any
district attorney in any suit in a county court, or Baltimore
city court, and allow a reasonable fee or reward,
