INDEX TO THE LAWS.
—Empowered to fill the vacancy, during the recess,
on refusal to give bond within twenty days, being a
disqualification,

number of additional notaries,

from those commissioned as justices of the peace, as
before required by law,
The power of the treasurers to demand
payment of
arrearages due to the state, subject to the direction
of
the governor and council,

with debtors, and to direct the treasurers to take
bond with security,
—To direct suits against sheriffs and clerks, and
give credit for money not chargeable by law,

sales on execution against a state debtor, or his securities,

—Similar provisions as to the sales of property taken
back on compromise,
—Empowered to compromise in cases of uninstalled
debts, and chancery suits,
—To direct the attorney-general to prosecute to
final decision in chancery suits not compromised, and
to employ persons to aid in surveys, &c.
—To direct process against bond debtors for confiscated
property, or otherwise, or direct execution to be
delayed,
—No process to issue unless by their direction,
—Empowered to suspend sales under fi. fa. or direct
executions by ca. sa. to be entered not called
by consent,
—To compound with former discoverers of British
property confiscated, or liable to confiscation, and
dispose of the same within a limited time,
—After the time limited, to dispose of the state's
right to any person,
—Extended to persons who had since this act, or
should within a limited time, make discoveries,
—Extended to any such property which might be
discovered to them, and six months allowed to compound,
In all such sales by the governor
and council, or under
their appointment, a condition to be made known
that the state's right only is sold,
—They may determine on the part of real property
on which bonds taken under this act shall be a lien,
—Directed to communicate their proceedings under
this act to the general assembly then ensuing,
—Authorised to allow commission to the person
appointed to sell property,
Form of the commissions to the judges
of the courts
of common law,
The governor and council directed
to vary the commissions
to the several judges of the court of appeals,
so as to designate the chief judge,
—To appoint some person to transmit the records of
the late courts in case of death or refusal of the clerks,
—The packages to be forwarded under the direction
of the governor and council,
The fees to the clerk of the council
for recording
commissions, to be paid at such times as the governor
and council may think proper, by orders on the treasury, |
