FINES AND FORFEITURES |
INDEX TO THE LAWS.
On persons erecting booths in Worcester, and
other counties therein mentioned, for selling liquors,
&c. near the Methodist camp or quarterly meetings,
£10,
On persons neglecting to remove putrifying pickle,
&c. after the fishing season, on Susquehanna, for
the first offence, $6,
On refusal or neglect for five days after, $20,
Fine on persons acting as commissioners,
&c. to receive
subscriptions for banking companies not incorporated,
$2000,
On any person, copartnership, or body politic,
subscribing for shares therein, $100,
One half to the informer, and the other to the
county, to be recovered by action of debt,
On persons setting up booths in the counties therein
mentioned, for selling liquor within two miles of any
Methodist camp or quarterly meeting, $20,
On candidates or other persons before or on the
day of any election, under the act of 1805, ch. 97, giving
or promising any gift or reward to secure any vote
or ballot, not exceeding $500,
To be recovered as fines, &c. under the said act,
On the register in chancery for demanding or receiving
fees more than therein allowed, $100,
Half to the party prosecuting, and half to the
state,
Fine on assessors neglecting to return
to the commissioners
of the tax certificates of valuations, not exceeding
$100,
On commissioners of the tax failing to meet as
therein directed, not exceeding $50,
On persons refusing or neglecting to give to the
assessors an account of their property, not exceeding
$100,
On persons removing their effects by fraud, &c.
to escape being taxed, $100,
All fines, &c. under this act,
to be recovered by indictment,
half to the informer, and half to the county,
The county clerks to return annually lists of such
fines to the levy courts,
Fine on persons erecting fish dams,
&c. on Susquehanna
as therein prohibited, $60,
On silver-smiths, &c. selling in the city of Baltimore
plate not assayed, &c. $100,
On the same, and the assayor for default as to notes
describing the plate, &c. $25,
On the assayor failing to produce his stamp to the
mayor and city council, such fine as they shall impose,
On forging or counterfeiting the stamp, &c.
$500,
On county clerks not delivering on application,
transcripts from dockets, papers, &c. delivered by
justices
of the peace on resignation or removal, or in case
of death, by their executors, $40,
To be recovered by any person suing for the same,
as debts of that amount,
On justices of the peace acting as such before
they qualify, &c. $40,
To be recovered and applied as other forfeitures
by law,
On their accepting (after having qualified,) any
office under the United States, and still acting as justices,
$40,
To be recovered before a justice of the peace, half
to the informer, and half to the county, |
