INDEX TO THE LAWS.
Persons appointed commissioners to ascertain and
fix new places for holding elections in the first and
fourth election districts, in Baltimore county,
The judges of the elections for members of the
first branch of the city council to be judges of the
elections
therein for representatives, &c. and hold the said
elections at the places prescribed as to the city council,
and pursue the regulations in this act prescribed,
The mayor to cause public notice to be given of
the elections aforesaid,
His duty, as to elections to fill a vacancy,
Every person qualified to vote, shall
vote in the election
district in which he shall reside, at the time of the
election, and in no other place,
Penalty on persons having once offering
to
vote again in the same district or county,
On a person offering to vote in any name not his
own,
On a person offering to vote in the place of any other
person of the same name,
Residing out of the district or county, and offering
to vote therein,
The fines to be recovered on warrant before a
justice of the peace, or a judge of the election,
Persons voting twice at one election
may be presented,
fined and imprisoned,
Same as to candidates or other persons practising
force or violence to influence unduly or interrupt any
election,
Penalty on commissioned or non commissioned
officers
mustering or embodying troops under their command,
or marching recruiting parties within view, during
the time of holding an election,
Candidates, or other persons, giving
or promising
any gift or reward to secure any person's vote liable
to fine and imprisonment, on conviction in the county
court,
Same on keeping, or suffering to be kept any house,
tent, booth, &c, in any part of the district, during
the
day of the election, where victuals or intoxicating liquors
shall be given to voters,
County clerks to endorse on the certificates
and
polls the day when received,
Compensation for such service,
Compensation to the judges and clerks
for attendance
at the elections, and making returns,
The governor and council, on receiving
the returns
of electors, to choose the President and Vice-President,
and for members of Congress, to ascertain the votes
given for each, and thereupon declare by proclamation,
signed by the governor, the names of the persons
elected,
Such proclamation to be inserted in such newspapers,
on both shores, as they may direct,
Where two or more candidates have
an equal number
of votes, the governor and council to determine on
the election by lot,
In elections for the assembly or congress,
to fill a vacancy,
the warrant shall go to the sheriff of the county
or counties where the election is to be held,
The sheriff shall appoint the day, of which ten days
exclusive notice shall be given,
He shall serve a copy of the warrant, with notice
of the day, on each of the judges, three days before
the time appointed, under a penalty for neglect,
Such election to be held within fifteen days after
the receipt of the warrant by the sheriff, |
