INDEX TO THE LAWS.
All that part of the second election
district of Anne-Arundel
county, lying out of the city of Annapolis, to
compose the second election district of said county,
—The city of Annapolis to constitute the sixth election
district of said county,
Commissioners appointed to lay off
Prince George's
county into six separate districts,
The number and limits of election
districts in the
city of Baltimore shall always be the same as the
wards therein,
In the fifth election district in
Anne-Arundel county,
the elections to be held at the house of Henry Whalen,
on the Frederick turnpike road,
A person of sound legal knowledge to
be appointed
and commissioned for each of the judicial districts,
to be styled District Attorney of the district for which
he shall be commissioned,
—To reside therein previous to and during his acting
as such,
—Similar provisions as to Baltimore city court,
The district attornies to exercise
within their courts
all the powers heretofore used by the attorney general
and his deputies,
—To take the oaths prescribed to be taken by the
attorney general, and to receive the same less as then
allowed,
—To hold their commissions during good behaviour,
but may be removed by the governor, on the address
of the general assembly,
—The attorney general may be called on by the governor
and council to aid any district attorney in any
suit in a county court, or Baltimore city court,
The attorney general, or the district
attornies, not
empowered to substitute any person to perform the
duties without the approbation of the court, and to
continue only during the term,
The district attorney to be commissioned
for the judicial
district within which Baltimore city court is
held, not to have any power as district attorney in Baltimore
city court,
The attorney general not precluded
from being also
appointed a district attorney, or attorney for the city
of
Baltimore, and holding both appointments,

—Calls to be made on the commanding officers of
divisions,

To be kept by justices of the peace,
and their proceedings
entered therein,
—Copies of their judgments to be furnished when
required, on which any other justice may issue execution,
—On the loss of a debt by neglect the justice liable,
—Dockets to be delivered to the county clerks in
case of removal, death, &c.
Not to be kept by negroes or slaves,
—May be kept by free negroes having a license, but
otherwise liable to be killed, |
