            INDEX TO THE LAWS.

of all books or writings in their possession or power,
as contain evidence pertinent to the issue,
—On failure by a plaintiff, judgment to be given as
in cases of non suit, and on failure by a defendant,
judgment by default,
—But either party may on such rule bring in the
original books or papers,
    On failure to produce books in chancery, when ordered,
or to shew cause, &c. the bill may be taken pro
confesso, and a decree made ex parte,
    Books for entering the voters names to be provided
by the sheriffs for the judges of elections,

    A lottery authorised for building a church for the
German Lutheran and Presbyterian Congregation,
—Same for finishing the Lutheran and Presbyterian
Church, building a school house, and purchasing a
fire engine,
    A turnpike road to be made from Boonsborough to
Swearingen's Ferry, on the Potomac,
    A lottery authorised for finishing a school house and
purchasing church bells,
    A company incorporated to make a turnpike road
from Boonsborough, through Williamsport, to intersect
the turnpike road from Cumberland, &c.
  A company incorporated for making a turnpike road
from Hager's Town to Boonsborough,

    The commissioners fo Baltimore empowered to take
testimony as to the former extent of water, and the
ground that has been made, &c.
    The county courts empowered to issue commissioners
for marking and bounding lands held by lessees for life
or for years, where the unexpired term will amount to
twenty-one years or upwards,
    All that part if the act of 1723, ch. 8, requiring the
commissioners to affix public notice at the parish
church, repealed,

    An act for settling the western limits of this state, and
the dividing line and boundary between this state and
the commonwealth of Virginia,
—The appointment of commissioners required, shall
not be made until the legislature of Virginia shall pass
a law with provisions similar to those contained in this
act,

    Of Baltimore county—money to be levied for his support,

    Of Baltimore county—same

    Of Montgomery county—same

    Of Montgomery county—same

    When to be appointed in the militia, &c.

    Of Anne-Arundel county—money to be levied for her
support,

    If any candidate at an election, under this act, or other
person, shall give or promise any gift or reward to secure
any vote or ballot, or keep, of suffer to be kept,
any house, booth, &c. in any part of the district during
the day of the election, and before the close, at his expense,
where victuals or liquors shall be given to voters,
