thousand dollars, as they in their judgment shall deem sufficient,
to build a bridge over the Great Falls of Gunpowder at Meredith's
ford, in Baltimore county, and the same, when assessed and levied,
shall be collected and paid unto John Merryman, of Benjamin, John
Yellott, junior, and Richard McGaw, who are hereby appointed
commissioners to superintend the building of said bridge, and they,
or a majority of them, shall and are hereby authorised to employ
a workman or workmen to build the said bridge, and the same
complete as soon as practicable. |

2. AND BE IT ENACTED, That it shall be the
duty of the commissioners
to take bond or bonds from the said workman or workmen,
in such penalty and security as the levy court of Baltimore county
shall direct, conditioned for the faithful binding and constructing
of said bridge, and that the said bond or bonds shall not be cancelled
until said commissioners shall have made report to the levy
court of Baltimore county that said bridge has been finished agreeable
to contract. |

4. AND BE IT ENACTED, That said commissioners,
after the
completion of said bridge, shall render a full account to the levy
court of Baltimore county of all the money expended in building
the said bridge, and the money remaining in their hands not expended,
if any, after the completion of the same, shall be returned
to said levy court for the use of said county. |

An Additional Supplement to the act*, entitled, An act to incorporate
a Company to make a Turnpike Road from the Turnpike
near Westminster
to Taney-town, thence with the Main Street through
Emmitsburgh,

Toll gate may be
kept at bridge
over Monocacy. |
1. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That
it shall and may be lawful for the Westminster, Taney-town, and
Emmitsburgh turnpike company, to erect and keep a toll-gate at
the bridge over Monocacy, between Taney-town and Emmitsburgh,
and to exact and receive from all persons using said bridge, such
tolls as to the said company may seem proper, provided the said
tolls shall not exceed the following rates, to wit: For every score
of
sheep twelve and one half cents; for every score of hogs twelve and
one half cents; for every score of cattle twenty five cents; for every
horse, and his rider, or led horse, six and one quarter cents; for
every chair, chaise, cart, or other carriage of pleasure or burthen,
having two wheels, twelve and one half cents for each horse, mule
or ox, drawing the same; for every wagon, coach, or other carriage
of burthen or pleasure, having four wheels, nine and two-thirds
cents for every horse, mule or ox, drawing the same; for the
recovery of which tolls, the said company shall have the same remedy
as is provided by law for the recovery of tolls receivable at
the gates on the several turnpike roads in this state. |

2. AND BE IT ENACTED, That it shall and may
be lawful for the
said company to shut up the roads and fords contiguous to the said
bridge, so as to prevent passengers from evading the payment of
toll for passing the said bridge. |

3. PROVIDED ALWAYS, AND BE IT ENACTED, That
so soon as the
road commenced by the Westminster, Taney-town and Emmitsburgh
