LAWS OF MARYLAND.
to be laid out and opened in Cecil county, by an act passed at December
session, eighteen hundred and sixteen, chapter one hundred
and ten, entitled, An act to lay out and open a road in Cecil county,
shall pass, or his, her, or their guardian or trustee, shall conceive
him, her or themselves, aggrieved by the valuation of the
commissioners acting under the said act, it shall and may be lawful
for any justice of the peace of Cecil county, on his, her, or
their application, to issue his warrant, under his hand and seal, directed
to the sheriff of the said county, commanding him to summon
twelve disinterested men, qualified by law to serve as jurors
in the county court, to meet upon the premises on a certain day, of
which six days notice shall be given to the party or parties interested;
and the said jurors, when so met, and having each taken an
oath before some justice of the peace that he will, without favour,
affection or partiality, assess the damages sustained by the person
or persons at whose request the said inquisition shall be taken, by
reason of opening the aforesaid road through his, her, or their
land, shall thereupon proceed to assess and value the damages accordingly,
taking into consideration the advantages and disadvantages,
if any, and such inquisition shall be final and conclusive between
the parties respectively. |

CHAP. XXVII.
A Supplement to the act*, entitled, An act authorising a Lottery
to
raise a sum of money for building a Masonic Hall in
Elkton, Cecil

Commissioners authorised
to propose
a scheme. |
1. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That
the commissioners appointed to carry into effect the provisions of
an act of the general assembly, passed at December session eighteen
hundred and sixteen, entitled, An act authorising a lottery to
raise a sum of money for building a Masonic Hall in Elkton, Cecil
county, or a majority of them, be and they are hereby authorised
and empowered to propose a scheme or schemes of a lottery
or lotteries, and sell and dispose of the tickets in Baltimore, or in
any other part of the state, for raising a sum of money not exceeding
ten thousand dollars, instead of three thousand as contemplated
by the original act to which this is a supplement, for the
purpose of purchasing a lot of ground, and erecting thereon a
Masonic Hall in Elkton, Cecil county. |

2. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said commissioners
instead
of giving bond in the penalty of six thousand dollars, shall give
bond in the penalty of twenty thousand dollars, conditioned in the
like manner as prescribed by the act to which this is a supplement. |

3. AND BE IT ENACTED, That all the other conditions
and provisions
of the before mentioned act, not in repugnance, shall be,
and the same is hereby declared to be, in full force and operation. |
